IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu at USF
IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu (IEEE-HKN) is the honor society of IEEE. It recognizes students, alumni, and professionals in electrical and computer engineering and IEEE’s other fields of interest who show excellence in scholarship, character, and attitude.
HKN was founded in 1904 at the University of Illinois and became IEEE’s honor society in 2010. Today it has chapters at universities around the world. Membership is by invitation: students are invited to join based on their academic standing, then complete their chapter’s induction requirements before being inducted.
What HKN stands for
- Scholarship: academic excellence in engineering and computing.
- Character: integrity and leadership, in and out of the classroom.
- Attitude: a commitment to serving others, from tutoring and mentoring to outreach in the community.
